Creating Web Pages
Before adding a new page, it's important to know what kind of page to create because there are two main kinds of pages: Menu Pages and Independent Pages. The main difference is that Menu Pages are associated with the navigation of the site, and are automatically incorporated into the menu, whereas Independent Pages stand alone and are not integrated into the navigation of the site. Menu Pages and Independent Pages are created differently, keep reading below to find out how to create either type.
Menu Pages
Menu Pages are associated with the navigation structure of the website. As new menu pages are added, the website navigation dynamically updates. The Menu Pages link takes you to a tree view of the site menu hierarchy. From here, site menus and content pages can be viewed, added, edited, rebuilt and published to the Production servers.
To access the Menus Pages click the Content Management left menu section to expand it then click the Menu Pages link.
Menus are organized into four levels:
- Menu Level 1
- Highest level of front end navigation, and are usually found on the navigation bar.
- Menu Level 1 pages are also used in development of sub-communities.
- Menu Level 2
- Child pages of the associated Level 1 parent page.
- Menu Level 3
- Child pages of the associated Level 2 parent page.
- Menu Level 4
- Child pages of the associated Level 3 pages.
- Menu Level 4 pages cannot have associated child pages.
Creating a New Menu Page:
- Determine where in the site structure the new page will go
- Click the Add Page button next to the page that will be the parent of the new page (for Menu 1 pages, that is the Home Page)
- Fill out the Page Name, Page Title, Order, and give the page some content
- Click Save and Preview at the bottom of the page
- If everything looks good check the box next to "Check In" and click the "Rebuild" button.(If not, click back to EZEdit at the top right)
- A New Menu page has been created on stage. Once it's content is finalized and ready to go live, publish the new page AND all other pages on the site to update their menus to include the new page.
Independent Pages
Independent Pages enables you to create website pages that are not associated with Menu 1, Menu 2, or Menu 3. Examples of pages that you may want to create that are not menu level links would include a Newsletter sign up page, a privacy policy page or any other page link that you do not want to be accessed via the main menus.
