Inserting Special Characters

Greek Letters and special characters may be inserted into a text field by a number of methods.

Inserting by copying and pasting the corresponding symbol directly into the FIS database:

The table below provides a list of the most common Greek letters and special characters. Next to each letter or special character is the corresponding decimal character equivalent and symbol as it would appear when inserted into text.

  1. In the table below, locate the Greek letter or special character you wish to insert into an FIS text field.

  2. Highlight the corresponding symbol and copy it to your clipboard (copy keyboard shortcut = CTRL+C).

  3. In the FIS text field, place the cursor where you want the Greek Letter or special character to appear and paste the symbol (paste keyboard shortcut = CTRL+V).

  4. After completion of data entry into FIS, save the record.

  5. The Greek letter or special character will be inserted and can be seen on both the View screen and the Edit screen.

Inserting by typing the decimal character equivalent into the FIS database:

Note: the advantage to this method is that the user can either memorize the decimal character equivalent or refer to a crib sheet; then type in the code rather than copying and pasting.

  1. In the table below, locate the Greek letter or special character you wish to insert into an FIS text field.

  2. In the FIS text field, place the cursor where you want the Greek letter or special character to appear. Type the decimal character equivalent

  3. After completion of data entry into FIS, save the record.

The decimal character equivalent will be inserted, converted to the Greek letter or special character and can be seen on both the View screen and the Edit screen.
